Prague’s food scene is a delightful surprise that goes way beyond traditional Czech dumplings and goulash. From plant-based cafes that will make any vegan’s heart sing to a sushi spot that rivals some of the best I’ve had anywhere (Japan, I’m coming for you next!), this city’s restaurant scene totally exceeded my expectations. After countless memorable meals, I’m excited to share my favorite spots that perfectly showcase why Prague has become such a fantastic food destination. Whether you’re a devoted vegan, sushi enthusiast, or simply someone who loves good food, these four restaurants are guaranteed to spark joy in your culinary adventure through Prague!
Vegan’s Prague:
Nestled in a charming historic building, Vegan’s Prague instantly captivates you with its cozy atmosphere. After climbing several stairs, you’ll find yourself in a two-story restaurant with a gorgeous loft space upstairs. If you are lucky you can sit in the one spot outside looking over the city of Prague.
The real magic happens when the food arrives. Their plant-based version of hovězí guláš (traditional Czech beef goulash) absolutely stole my heart! This vegan twist on classic Czech comfort food is full of vegetables and rich flavors that’ll make you forget it’s meat-free. But the culinary adventure didn’t stop there – I also tried their vegan take on Svíčková, another beloved Czech dish. This dish had tender plant-based ‘beef’ served with Czech dumplings, all bathed in a creamy sauce. The dish was served with extra gravy on the side (you can never have too much gravy!). Trust me, even non-vegans will fall in love with these creative plant-based versions of traditional Czech cuisine.

Bezmasna Plant-Based Butchery:
If you told me I’d find an authentic deli experience in Prague, I wouldn’t have believed you – let alone a completely vegan one! Bezmasna just opened in May 2024, bringing the nostalgic feel of a New York-style deli to Prague’s vibrant vegan scene. Imagine walking up to a counter and ordering plant-based versions of classic deli meats by the pound – from familiar favorites like salami, bologna, and ham to traditional Czech specialties like Bavarian and wine sausages.
What makes this spot extra special is the made-to-order experience – you can either grab a fresh sandwich to enjoy in their cozy space or take your picks home to create your own culinary masterpiece. And don’t even get me started on their selection of house-made salads! Their potato salad honestly puts traditional versions to shame (yes, it’s that good!).
The cherry on top? The incredibly welcoming staff who are happy to walk you through their impressive selection. As someone whose Czech vocabulary doesn’t extend much beyond ‘děkuji’ (thank you), I was ecstatic to find an English-speaking staff who patiently helped me navigate the menu. The best part is watching them prepare everything fresh right before your eyes – there’s something so satisfying about seeing your food made from scratch!

Střecha:
Střecha isn’t just another Prague restaurant – it’s a heartwarming blend of delicious food and social impact! This innovative spot doubles as a co-working space and provides meaningful employment opportunities to people facing life challenges. The moment you walk in, you can feel the warm, inclusive atmosphere.
Their menu is a delightful mix of Czech classics and international favorites, paired with an impressive drink selection. Whether you’re craving your morning coffee fix, a refreshing soft drink, or winding down with local Czech beer or wine, Střecha has something for you. I dove straight into their Budvarský guláš (dark beer goulash) – think rich, complex flavors perfectly soaked up by bread dumplings. The Ne-Žebírka ve švestkové omáčce (ribs in plum sauce) was another showstopper, served with a mustard sauce that I’m still dreaming about!
What makes Střecha truly special is their commitment to the community. They offer free water, WiFi, and restroom access to people in need. Even better? You can participate in their ‘pending lunch’ program – buy a half or full meal that will be given to someone who could use a warm, satisfying meal.

Miyabi:
Who would have thought I’d find some of the most incredible sushi spots in the heart of Prague? Miyabi isn’t just a restaurant – it’s a culinary journey that transports you straight to Japan! Their standout feature? Authentic tatami seating that lets you experience dining the traditional Japanese way. Picture yourself seated on a special floor at incredibly low tables, creating an immersive experience that’s worlds away from your typical restaurant setup.
The attention to detail here is extraordinary. They serve miso soup in the most traditional manner – no spoons allowed! You’ll drink directly from the bowl, just as they do in Japan. The sushi? Absolutely phenomenal. Each piece is so fresh and meticulously prepared that it practically melts in your mouth. While it’s definitely on the pricier side for Prague dining, the quality of food and exceptional service make every koruna worth it.
Pro tip for food lovers and culture enthusiasts: The tatami seating is a must-book experience. It’s not just a meal; it’s a cultural adventure that will be the highlight of your Prague foodie memories!
