When visiting London I finally got to try the Juicy Marbles thick cut filet and I was 100% hooked. Here are a few tips and tricks I used to cook these delicious vegan steaks in an Airbnb with limited space and limited utensils.
Prepping the plant based steaks:
I was super impressed with how realistic the vegan filets looked. I took the two fake steaks out about 20 minutes prior to cooking and salted all sides and put fresh pepper on the tops. The label suggested salting and resting before cooking and I wanted to follow the instructions as close as I could! *Funny side note: I was staying at an Airbnb, I did not have scissors and getting the package open was terrible. This was probably the only complaint I have about Juicy Marbles- The plastic packaging user experience is awful. I used nail clippers that worked a bit and then shoved a butter knife in the little slit I was able to make.
Cooking the Juicy Marbles:
After I finally got the package open, I’ll be truthful I was a little grossed out with the beet juice (looked like blood) that got on my hands.
To cook the plant based steaks I used butter (they suggest oil but I didn’t have any) and heated the pan to about medium heat. I cooked each side for two minutes for a total of 8 minutes. I let the steaks rest after cooking for about two minutes as well.
To serve with the steaks I sautéed mushrooms and bought a microwavable store brand rice.
While the “steaks” cooked I continually basted them with the butter melting from the pan
I tried to sear the “steaks” so they got crisp on all of the sides. Even cooking on the sides of the plant based filets.
The plant based steaks turned out delicious! I was honestly so impressed with the taste. The flavor was so good. The texture is more of a beef roast and not so much what I would think of as a “traditional” filet.
